Polymyalgia and Prednisone

Hi Ida, I saw my doctor today, and he thinks that Enbrel is the way to go for me, because it is good for PMR as well as RA, and he thinks that I may have both. Also, it starts working in 2 to 8 weeks, whereas, Sulfasalazine takes up to 3 or 4 months. He expressed concern about the common side effect of headaches from the Sulfa drug too, since I have had problems with headaches from MTX. Since my post to you a couple of days ago, things have changed, and my doctor has now recommended Enbrel rather than Sulfasalazine. I just wanted to update you on the Enbrel issue. I hope you are doing better. You said that your doctor suspects something else may be going on with you, since you are not having success in tapering the Prednisone. Has the doctor mentioned adding another drug to your Prednisone? Maybe Methotrexate would help you taper the Prednisone. That's why my doctor put me on it, but I haven't been able to tolerate the little higher dose, which would take care of my symptoms. Also, MTX stops RA from damaging our joints, and if you have RA with your PMR, it could be a good way to go. At any rate, I hope that your pain and fatigue can be remedied soon! Take good care and let me know how you are doing. Shar
