What city are you in? I am in NYC and am looking for a specialist. I may have found one at Johns Hopkins but I cannot get him to return my calls. I will be calling all the major hospitals in NYC this week to see if they have a referral to an MD who specializes in PVNS. However, my MD is an excellent surgeon and asks for help when he needs it. My tumor was discovered when I had my knee replaced in 9/97. Feb.16th, 2000 I had an arthroscopic surgery on the front of my knee and an open incision in the back of my knee because the tumor had spread throughout my entire knee and into my calf muscle, popliteal artery and a tendon. Unfortunately the MD could not get all of the tumor removed from the front of the knee. I am now having another surgery on the front of my knee on 6/28. It will be an open insicision, just like the TKR, and recovery might be the same, long, painful and lots and lots of PT. I see the surgeon on 5/11 for further details. So all in all, this will be the 4th removal of the tumor since 9/97. I had to take a medical leave when I had my knee replaced. That was the main recovery. If you want to know about recovery, try to find a physical therapist at a teaching hospital and ask them what recovery is really like. The doctors don't see you often enough to see the day to day problems with healing and the pain it produces. I had a great physical therapist. She is a medical school with a physical therapy department. I hope to be able to use her again this summmer.
