P V N S is very rare from what I understand. My ortho surgeon did the knee surgery (after seeing from an MRI that "something is there"). My symptoms were pain in my knee and difficulty walking. Once he was there, he discovered the PVNS. He said I was his only patient that had PVNS. I was a little concerned; however, that was in 1991 and it has not reoccurred. If he is a good surgeon and knows what he is doing, hopefully he can remove all of the virus. I was told it is a virus in the lining of the synovial (sp) joint. Hope this helps. Di
