FIRST time dealing with "head lice" please help

First of all relax! It is no big deal. I have 2 grown daughters and never heard of lice until I moved to Florida when they were young. Then I became the clinic attendant at the school. I was known as the "Bug Lady" by the little ones at the school because of my regular head checks in the classroom. After becomming an "expert" on lice this is what I would suggest. Only use treated shampoo once. Then you must regularly (at least once a day) go thru the hair and pick out the nits. When you get one, drop it in a waiting cup of alcohol. Be sure to carefully watch that it drops in the cup and not on your rug or sofa. When done flush the cup of nits. Do a therough vacuuming of the whole house, change linnens, put all stuffed animals in plastic bags and leave them sealed for at least 45 days. A spray of Lysol into the bag before sealing helps too. As long as you regularly check the heads you should get rid of it. It could take up to 3 weeks to get rid of it depending on how bad it was in the first place. It can be exhausting, but you must check heads regularly. Also check heads of playmates especially at sleepovers. Once the nits are gone, check at least once a week as a preventitive measure till your kids are old enough to check themselves-
