I know what you are going through. I have herniated discs in the C area 4-6 and arthritis in the lumbar area S1 & 5 etc. My pain is so bad that I get sick to the stomach from it. Some days I can't even stand up straight in the shower. My pain started after I had a total knee operation. I am heavy and always have been and it has NEVER hindered me in any way. Now the doctors are saying this is what is causing the problem. Since the surgery my leg has been numb mid-thigh down to my foot (on the outer side of the leg). The doctors can't tell me why this is going on but they do agree that it has to do with a nerve in the lumbar area. All they say is lose weight. Mean while I can't even walk a half-block because of this pain. I also walk with a cane now. I am 47 and my life seems to be finished. No one is owning up to their mistakes.
