It takes between 1-1/2 to 2 years of very intense and exhausting physical examinations, blood, psychological and other tests which are done by both the State and Federal levels. this is to weed out fraudulent applicants. Social Securtiy lawyers are assigned you. Rarely will someone be accepted on the first try, or second try. The groups' social workers at the center will help you with forms, evidence etc. It is imperative to see a psychiatrist for evaluation to prove that you are not faking pain. This adds to the proof. You have to be patient and believe. It is difficult, but they will pay you any retroactive money due in one lump some from the first date you applied. You must not give up though.
