Eczema

Message 20 of 31 Previous Next

My child was diagnosed with eczema and the Dr. prescripted steriod cremes for him. I was reluctant to put them on him since there are many long-term problems associated with them. I wanted to find out what was causing it. Then I was told that he was probably allergic to something, either a certain food, laundry detergent, outside allergens & pollens. Well it turned out that he had food allergies to milk products(which is very common) and egg and some others that we are still trying to determine. The way to determine it is to do food elimination diets. If your baby is not on food yet, it could be the formula. Many times it takes a while to build up the allergen reactions in the blood before they show an allergy. If your baby is still nursing, he or she could be allergic to something in your diet as my baby was. He was allergic to the milk in my diet. Once I gave that up, he was fine. Now I drink soy or rice milk instead. Also, it is helpful to know if there are any food allergies or other allergies in your family because it is hereditary. Remember the eczema is your baby's body's way of telling you something is not right and needs to be fix. Beware of the doctor who just wants to treat the symptoms but not get to the root cause. Because then the allergens could show up in other ways such as in behavior, etc. later on. It is helpful to see an allergist for your baby and you. Many times the allergist can test baby but the allergens may not show up yet but they can test both the parents to determine what their allergies are and then that will give you a insight as to what your baby may be allergic to. Good luck. Beverly
