Hi there folks, I am currently on day 5 after my tonsilectomy. I'd have to say, I don't have any children, so I can't compare it to childbirth. But what I can tell you is that, it's pretty intense. AT TIMES!! DO NOT skip ANY stages of your pain killers. If they are making you nauseaus, then switch to liquid Tylenol ( 1000 milligrams max per 4 hours ). Use ice packs, behind on your neck, it won't feel good on your throat, too much pressure. Sleep upright. or turn your head to the side. Expect a swollen uvula. I thought I kept choking on snot, but it's that darn uvula in the way. Eat whatever, when you can. At times you'll feel like real people food, chew it lots and eat it. Other times, water will be enough. That's fine. Listen to your body. Rest, rest rest. Let someone pamper you! Take advantage of this time, there are no time pressures or expectations, so take it easy. Don't blow your nose. and try to talk as much as possible to keep those throat muscles loose. Have a sign for the middle of the night, when you wake up and your mouth is 100% dry, so that your caretaker will bring you ice chips to suck on. I must say, I'm the biggest baby on this earth, and If I can do it, you can too! Any other questions, I'll watch for your reply!! Thanks and best of luck... it'll be just fine. Just remember to say a little prayer!! :-) Wimp girl~
