Hi, so sorry to hear about your 9yr old,can I make a suggestion watch his carbs, take a test allow him only 20 to 30 grams a day try eggs on the am for lunch meat with small salad eat till full, can have brocolli, or string beans, even a hamburger no bun, and in the the afternoon keep chicken in the fridge so he can pick on it when hungry use cheese too not american or processed cheeses, chedder is good even melted on vegetables, no corn or carrots high sugar content, tuna salad is good too, if he desires sweets some protein bars low is carbs can satisfy him too, no pasta for a while, or white potatoes, no white rice, try basmatti ,low gluton rice is good, spelt pasta in health food stores is good too. mix it with vegetables make own salad dressing, store ones are high in sugar and hydrogenated fats...on week-ends give him a treat low in carbs..see if this helps..make sure he drinks lots of water too this helps to flush out lots of junk in the system... hope this helps a little I am not a doctor, so make sure he keeps his appointment with an endocronologist...bye Maryanne P.S. I have diabetes 2, and I wish they will find a cure especially for the young ones it is so hard for them.. try to get him to contact other kids with the disease so they can help each other and trade new ideas with food and encouragement...
