I've had the itching and burning hives too - for three years until a odctor gave me prednisone. Steroids have been the most help for me too. I only took the prednisone for a week and the hives were gone for three months. My problem is they come back every three months. I've been searching the web trying to find out if prednisone has a duration of effect. I really don't want to take prednisone again, but it seems to be the only thing that works.
