Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy

Please see a doctor who treats RSD regularly. We had a hard time finding a doctor who had extensive experience treating RSD in children. My daughter fought this for months until we found a doctor at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. She finally went into remission with a combination of epidural, bier block, extensive physical therapy, gabapentin, and other medicines I cannot remember. Her RSD was in the foot and ankle, and she got the most relief from keeping her foot propped up while in class or watching TV, etc. When the foot stayed on the floor, the swelling was much worse, and the pain seemed to increase with the swelling. She used a wheelchair which some doctors thought was the worst thing in the world, but it worked for her. She maintained her range of motion by doing the physical therapy faithfully 3 times a week for the duration of the RSD flare, and she wore a boot-type brace at night while sleeping which kept her foot flexed so that her hamstring didn't draw up. Her attitude was a major factor in the remission because she didn't feel sorry for herself, and never stopped trying.
