I'm not certain if this will help your child. I have been diagnosed with RA as an adult. In the beginning all symptoms mimicked other terminal illiness. My SED rate had skyrocketed. I am seeing a rheumotologist who has prescribed methotrexate which can give the side effects of mouth sores. He prescribed folic acid to be taken three times per day. This has helped. Occasionally I get a mouth ulcer which goes away in a few days. It is not a constant occurance. I noticed it happens during my monthly cylce. It didn't happen until I started with the methotrexate. This medication has my SED rate under control, I am no longer anemic, my white cells are normal, I no longer have a constant low grade fever and the excrutiating pain I experienced in the beginning is gone. Some pain is still present but I am taking celebrex for that which helps. It does not stop the pain completely but it helps. It is worse in the morning because I have been still for so long. The more I move around the better I feel. I'm trying to develope an exercise program for this. I was a runner. Now my most severe pain, like your childs, is located in my right leg; mainly my shin and hip. Running causes it to feel as though my leg is on fire. I'm sorry your child has to suffer with this malady.
