Developmental Dyspraxia

Message 18 of 52 Previous Next

My little boy is 9, has mild dyspraxia which only now affects his speech (slightly halting, can't think of the word) and his writing which is ok, but not great, a bit slow. His teachers say he has ADHD but the educational psychologist didn't agree and on this small island I have no other specialists to turn to, although to be honest I think he is great and just needs treating like other kids, nothing more. They say Daniel fidgets and can't concentrate so I put him on ritalin but neither they nor he seem to notice any difference when he doesn't take it. He has some problems with understanding maths concepts unless explained individually to him and so has 2 hours of tutoring a week. The school say he is slow, I say they are lousy teachers cos he did very well indeed in third grade. I think the slow writing is holding him back. Sorry for such a mixed up note, but I just sometimes don't know where I am with my child and the school and any help you can give about mild dyspraxia or whatever it is and sorting out schoool problems, I would be very grateful for. (when replying pls remove the NOSPAM)
