I have a daughter that has this. She is now 38. She wore a brace for almost 2 years and when it was time to take it off everything started going backward. The curve changed and we ended up with her have the surgery with the metal rod from the back of her neck to her tailbone. She is living a normal life after the surgury and has 2 beautiful healthy children with no problems. Hope this helps some.
