Dear Fran, My daughter is 10 1/2 and was diagnosed in November w/scoliosis. Her curve is s shaped as well and her degrees are 44 and 48. The specialist we saw told us that she will require surgery when she is 12 or 13 and that her back can get 1 degree worse per year. She was fitted for the Boston brace and started wearing it in December. At the time she was fitted for the brace, we questioned the need for the brace when surgery is needed down the road. We were told that it was to stop the curvature from going any further, not to fix the problem. It is very difficult to make her wear the brace when she knows that she will need the surgery anyway. I feel very torn in enforcing the wearing of the brace and just waiting for the surgery. She is miserable with the brace on and quit wearing it mid January. If you get any information that would help me in making a decision, I would appreciate it very much. Too bad kids don't come with handbooks!! Best regards, Michelle
