RHEUMATIC FEVER

Broookshire

Message 3 of 10 Previous Next

My son is 14 and has recently been diagnosed with Rheumatic Fever. His ASO tests were greater than 650; He has been sick since November 1999, and has been treated with numerous antibiotics before the diagnosis of rheumatic fever. He has never been tested for strep and has never complained of a sore throat. He complained of joint pain and was very tired. Now he has started the penicillin injection treatment, but we cannot seem to get off of antibiotics. His WBC count is low (below 4) and he can stay off of po antibiotics for about 2 days, then he spikes a fever and has headaches, vomiting and usually some type of URI. He is very athletic and has run and worked out in the gym and played basketball for the last 3 years. I do not understand why he continues to keep some type of infection? His sed rate was normal; his C-reactive protein was normal. Does anyone have any idea? Maybe he has been mis-diagnosed??????
