Hi Carol-Yes, it is possible to have pmr and not respond to prednisone. I am living proof. I developed prm when I was 25. After being diagnosed (which took 3 drs. to get it right) I was put on prednisone for about 3 months with absolutely no response other than a fat face. My dr. tried other meds for about 18 months before he realized that I needed to be put on the "hard stuff" called methotrexate. After about 6 weeks I could feel a remarkable difference. I am now 41 and still on the methotrexate.I still have good and bad days but nothing like in the beginning of the disease. I work fulltime and have two active kids to tend to. Sometimes my body tells me to slow down a bit and I do listen but otherwise I don't consider myself to be any less than anyone else. Even after 7 surgeries to correct bone problems. Discuss all options with your dr. and don't give up! I wanted to but I didn't and man am I glad! Hang in there and good luck.
