I just had my tonsils out Friday, June 18th. i was like you--very scared, i had even scheduled and cancelled my surgery once before. after talking to several people, i heard many view points about the surgery. i have had a good experience so far-- honestly, my sore throats were worse than the pain i am having after the surgery. technology and surgeries have improved so much that really makes this a simple procedure--they give you lots of pain medicine and that really helps! also--the key is to drink, drink, drink, even if it hurts--i promise it gets better! i found a good website to look at to see what your tonsils will look like after the surgery so you won't be worried if your throat looks like that-- hope this helps!! good luck!
