My son, at age two and a half, was diagnosed with a third ureter with grade five megaureter reflux. I found outlater that I should have known this while I was still pregnant with him since it showed up on my ultrasound and I feel I could done something earlier before so much damage was done. He ended up having an operation at age three to remove half of his right kidney and repair a hydrocele hernia. Apparently the ballooned kidney pushed things down, causing a hernia too. But happy to say we had a very competent physician and my son recuperated very fast, literally by the third day he was out and climbing furniture and playing around as nothing had happened. He is seven and a half now and doing very well. My only suggestion is that whenever they put a catheter in your child, always insist they use the smallest one available, even if it leaks, to avoid damage and scarring to the urethra. Hope all goes well with your child.
