Hi, My Daughter was born with bylateral reflux of the kidneys, I think it is the same thing your son has. Her urine would go from the kidneys to the bladder and then back flush back into the kidneys. She is now 14 years old and is doing well. When she was small we had a problems when she go her shots, the only way the immune shots leave your system is threw you urine, well when it keeps back flushing, it dose not leave your system like it should and she would get real sick and end up in the hospital. She always had side aches or pain on her side. Her left kidney is 25% damaged and her right side is 65% damaged, that is the side that had the pain, the kidney was very enlarged. As her body grew and she got taller, the large kidney fit her body better. We had some rough and rocky roads with this till she was about 3, then the flaps that open and close in her bladder started to work and since then, we have been doing real well. She was on medication for about the first 5 years of her life, it was a sulfa drug, it kept her urine sterial so she would not get infections. WE still have tests done once a year to keep an eye on it because it could act up at anytime and you would not even know it, it is more of a silent disease and if you don't watch it and your kidneys get bad, you would eventually need a kidney trasplant because the kidney would be so damaged. Kepp me posted. Karen W.
