I don't have enough information to tell why the tonsillectomy is being considered but since you have doubts, talk to your pediatrician and get another opinion from a different ENT in a separate surgical group. From my experience he is a little young but if he is having sleep apnea or other severe problems, listen to your doctors. If you can't talk openly with your pediatrician -- get another one!
