Barbara, I'm very sorry that you are in pain. If you have Polymyalgia Rheumatica, Prednisone should resolve most of the symptoms within a couple of days of starting it. Since your family doctor is unsure of the diagnosis, it might be best to see a rheumatologist, as others have suggested. It can be a little tricky to diagnosis Polymyalgia, but rheumatologists see it all the time, and they can reach a diagnosis, perhaps, sooner than doctors in other fields. Best of luck to you! Sue
