Hi; I sincerely hope your daughter has the answers to all of your questions from her physician. Shingles, or Herpes Zoster, is viral, and only a person who has had Chicken Pox can have shingles because it's the same virus. The virus remains dormant and then erupts whenever, often associated with stress, I don't adhere to that theory. I've had Shingles twice, 20 years apart, the pain is exquisite, and each time I was given prednisone and each time it worked. The second bout of Shingles, about two years ago was more intense, it started on my face and worked around to the nape of my neck, and I did have some minor scarring. The prednisone was doubled for this event. I've had no residuals, and I hope I never have them again. I also hope your daughter gets the appropriate treatment early, a delay can cause considerable problems that are life long. Good luck to her.
