My son (only 27) has this condition. I have been researching it for months. There is no once certain thing that works for everybody. Certain drops work for certain people, plugs work for some but not others. I suggest you go to the health forum - enter dry eyes and just start reading the messages posted from people with this condition. I have talked to doctors all over the United States and there is not a cure. There are several clinical trials being conducted at this time. Have you been checked by a doctor as there are several medical conditions that can cause this. One of the places I found that helped me the most in understanding this condition is the Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston. There is a patient liaison there named Rich Godfrey who is wonderful and will provide you with all kinds of information regarding the condition. As far as the depression, I know what you are going through as I watched my son trying to deal with this. He was put on a mild medication to help him deal with the stress, anxiety and depression this causes. I have also found several people who have said that after taking medication like Paxil that it seemed to relieve some of the symptoms. You have to be careful thought because some of these drugs can cause dry eyes. You would need to talk to your doctor. If I can help you in any way please e-mail me back - I will share any info I have. I know when I put out my desparate request for help on this people where so kind and I would like to pass that on! Good luck!
