robyn....please get your mother to a neurosurgeon as soon as possible....i suffered with this for three years before finding out what it was...i had to have surgery...but it was the best thing i ever did...i am now walking...swimming...and riding in a car for as long as i wish....i have very little pain....i do wish you good luck....best wishes to you...p.s....the recovery time was about 6 months and i did pool therapy and stretching and strengthening exercises...but improved each and every day...and now have a normal life...
