My daughter is now 17. She had the spinal fusion surgery when she was 12. I tried to have the scoliosis corrected by a chiropractor also. He said that he could fix it. The curve corrected maybe 5 degrees after 3 months of treatment. My daughter reached a point that the chiropractic treatment was more trouble than it was worth, i.e., purchase equipment, wear brace, hang from equipment, etc. Everything that she was told to do would have to be done until she was 18. We finally went ahead with the surgery. She is fine now. It is a difficult surgery, but I now work in the legal department of the hospital where my daughter's surgery was performed. The hospital is a children's orthopedic hospital in Dallas. This surgery is done routinely with no problems. I don't think I have every spoken with a single child that regretted having the surgery. Things do turn out to be fine. My daughter's original cure went from 35-60 by the time we had the surgery.
