night terrors

Night Terrors is a real thing. My daughter who is now 11 had them since she was born. About 7 months old, I started to realize that something was scaring her and that is why she did not want to go to sleep. When she was 2 years old, I was able to get her to draw pictures of what she was seeing when she went to bed in her mind and what was scaring her. As she got older she refused to go to sleep and would stay awake all night until she passed out. One time, she thought she was on fire and would not stop screaming until I wiped her down with wet washclothes. Another time, she saw bugs all over and actually climbed up on me and would not get down until I used her father's shoe to kill the bugs. No one elses shoes would work. I have had her evaluated by psychiatrists and psychologists. They tried medicine to put her to sleep at night but nothing worked. Finally we agreed on giving her Benadryl - the antihistimine. It did not put her to sleep but it did calm her down enough to lie in bed and eventually sleep. The night terrors have subsided most of the time. She is 11 now and still takes 1 25mg Benadryl at bedtime and it allows her to calm down enough to lie in bed until she falls asleep. Hope all works out.
