Chronic Sinus Disease

Message 6 of 9 Previous Next

I know exactly what you are going through. I too, had the surgery 3 years ago, I had polps - so many there wasn't room for any more. Was having sinus infections one right after the other - Had an MRI for something different and they found I had sinus disease. The had a cat scan after seeing an ENT and surgery - deviated septum, scar tissue on my nose bones and all this was corrected. Then, the night mare began of having more infections. So concerned about so many antiobiotics because I am a diabetic and then the yeast infections, etc. I was a wreck. I told the doc I was not taking any more antiobiotics so he sent me to an allergy specialist. I have allergies but he didn't think I needed the shots at this point. (Little does he know but I am going along with him for awhile) He put me on a decongestant (I was on Claritin D) but can't remember all of the name (starts out Guafen). It is good - 1-morning and 1-at night. He also had me take an antiobiotic for 10 days. I hated that but did it and decided I would not take more unless an emergency. I realize most of my problem at present are allergies - so I use a nasal spray (prescription) only when I feel I need it, run a vaporizer by my bed but only water to keep my nasal passages from drying out through the night, sometimes I use a bought saline solution or just water with a little salt and the same kind of bulb aspirator that you use for children with lots of nasal mucous. I slowly squirt the solution into one side and then the other, sometimes holding my head back - it is messy but well worth it. Then I can blow my nose real good and feel relief. Also, my regular doctor believes that when there is color to your mucous then it is infection - not true - allergies have a lot of different colors from dark green to light green to clear to yellow. I am experiencing it all, but have more relief now than I have had in a few years. I can deal with this - I couldn't deal with all of the antiobiotics. Good luck.
