Duplex Kidney?

If I am understanding that you actually have two ureters connected to one kidney it is called a dual collecting system. My son was born with it and the lower ureter had to be removed because it was a megaureter with grade five reflux, in other words, instead of draining the urine from the kidney to the bladder it would suck the urine back up into the kidney, basically putrifying the lower lobe, which also had to be removed. However, if neither ureter has reflux, I don't see why you would need to have one removed. Having a dual collecting system basically divides the one kidney into two systems. As long as they are draining the kidney properly I wouldn't take the risk of having an unnecessary invasion into the body. It is not as uncommon as you think.
