thick, foul-tasting, green morning mucus--help

anurse

Message 2 of 6 Previous Next

You have an infection. Green mucus is not normal. It sounds like a bacterial infection. Call your family doctor and see him/her. Get a sterile specimen cup from your doctor and the next morning collect some and take it in to be cultured. Antibiotics should clear this up. During your antibiotic therapy (7-14 days) get in to see an allergist and get on some good meds. To help in the morning...run a cool mist humidifier in your room at night. This will help to liquefy secretions. Take Guianfenisin at bedtime. This can be purchased in syrup form without a prescription. It is an expectorant. It is sold as prescription tablets as Entex or Entex LA. Drink LOTS of WATER. Take Vitamin C. Avoid allergens (as much as possible.) Get an air purifier for your home (the ionic ones are best). Do NOT sleep on a feather pillow. Get the Allercare pillow and mattress covers. Become MRS. CLEAN and do a thorough cleaning of your bedroom. Dust and vacuum EVERYTHING. Especially areas that dust and dust mites like to hide. Thoroughly wash all bedding, blankets, comforters etc. Hope this helps. Allergies cause increased secretions and mucus in all of your airways. This increased mucus is a perfect place for bacteria to grow. That is why you are always fighting an infection. By the way....tooth pain is face pain:^)
