Are the arch supports you have tried the "over the counter" or have you worked with someone in orthopedics and also a professional orthotic prothesis specialist. They are expensive ( and I'm not trying to be critical), but it may be a penny wise, pound foolish situation. I've done the same myself on occasion. Not with this particular ailment though. I saw my GP who set me up with the orthotic person and it has done the job in a manner of months. I can tell when I cheat and do another pair of shoes without the inserts or try to go barefoot.
