Marilyn, I had the surgery done the end of September. I went in the hospital Tuesday, they released me that Saturday, and by Monday I was back in the hospital with pneumonia. (I ended up in there another week). I went back for my check-up after a month and I have to stay on a soft or liquid diet because I'm having problems with the food getting stuck at the opening. I Also have no motility left in my esophagus. And the food is having a hard time getting through. They are now talking about stretching the opening a little. I go back in 3 months. I am still throwing up if I eat or drink to much. I've lost 20 lbs.and my pcp told me if I don't gain some back he is putting me back in the hospital. The problem is that if you don't have the surgery you could end up with cancer in the esophagus from the reflex.
