Psoriasis

Hi, I am 55 and just got diagnosed with Psoriasis 5 years ago; it had been dormant in my body for 50 years. One of the first things I did was to write to the National Psoriasis Foundation and I found their monthly newsletter VERY helpful. I believe they have their own web site. I have tried only 2 ointments; one stopped working so I got a new (compount prescription) one. It's working for the time being. I just met a woman who's had it for 20 years, and she said that your body becomes immune to each ointment, and that's why you have to keep going back to the doctor to find a new one. Many of us have found that taking 2-4 Vitamin E capsules per day helps a lot. I also read that staying out in the sun helps. I'm in New England, and am worse in the winter, better in the summer. There are also two parts to Psoriasis; the dry areas and the moist areas. I can put up with the nuisance dry areas, but the psoriasis in the moist areas turns into yeast infections. That's where my new ointment works best. People writing to the NPA newsletter suggested that changing your diet sometimes helps; one person said eliminating bananas helps. From what I understand, everyone is different. But, I also found out that it is an Autoimmune Disease. A lady on the internet told me we do not inherit diseases from our parents/grandparents, we inherit their not-so-perfect immune systems. Put Psoriasis into a www-search or a HLU-search and read as much as you can about the disease.
