I am doing research on the net for my daughter who has scoliosis and ran across your plea for information. My son, William, has scoliosis and is the same age as your son. William had spinal fusion in October of 1999. Yes, the surgery was traumatic, BUT it worked. It was the right decision for him. Prior to surgery, he wore a Boston brace for about a year, but his scoliosis got worse. He does have a very large scar from the surgery, but it will fade with time.
