shingles are herpes zoster. They are a viral infection and are usually treated with a form of acyclovir ointment and pills. They are related to chicken poxs. Being a vegertarin has little to do with this viral infection. You can be run with a bacterial infection, or simply the virus just became active. It is possible that anyone at any age may have them. They are contagious when in the blister and scabbing state. You must make sure to clean your shower/bath tub after each usage with a small amount of bleach.
