My son had the vagus nerve stimulator implainted in May of 2000. It has slowed down the number of seizures he's had. With time, the amount of seizures decrease. It was approved by the FDA in 1997 and there has been a lot of success. Seizure medication is still taken along with the implant but with many, a person can be taken off of the meds. The side effects can be a slight voice change during the time the stimulator is on. There is no pain and no adverse side effects. This is a procedure that should definitely be looked into.
