Febrile Seizure from high fever

My son Dylan is now 4 years old, when he was 19 months old he developed pneumonia. He also suffered from asthma and our pedeatrician had told me that any time he coughed for more than a few hours to start nebulizer treatments (inhalation treatments). So I waited another day before seeing our doctor. By then the pneumonia was so bad that he had to be admitted to the hospital. Though my son did not have a febrile seizure I was completely overwhelmed. He was in the hospital for 6 days or so. Iwas in college then and a single mother. I missed so many classes that an adviser suggested I quit and come back next semester. It was an isolating experience as well as absolutely heartbreaking. I hated being so helpless, and many friends and family were hurtfull with their suggestions to "just let a nurse cjheck in on him" so Icould keep with my classes. He was so sick that he wouldn't eat for two days. He would not even move, he just laid there and either stared or woulf cry this wimpering wine that was nowhere near the robust cry of a healthy baby. There were people from my church that helped when we were back home. My experience was an extreme one, but for sure no one could more sympathetic! If you feel overwhelmed be sure to ask for help, if you can. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Get as much sleep as you can and I found that the best thing I could do for my son was to lay down beside him and sponge him off with a cool, damp cloth. I would hum to him and sing his favorite songs. He would lay beside me look up into my face. I know that my presence help to comfort him a great deal.
