pregnancy and body piercings

I don't see any reason why a piercing would be harmful to an unborn baby. I have both my tongue and naval pierced and am going on my 4th pregnancy. The piercings are superficial, they are not in any way affecting a baby. If you were to get an infection, that might be a concern, but unless it traveled to your blood stream (quite rare) I don't see any reason to worry. The only real concern is when your belly begins to grow larger... sometimes it pinches the piercing and you may need to switch to either a larger gauge or else go with PTFE or Bio-flex. I have heard that some women also use fish-line or dental floss as a retainer for their pierincg while pregnant if they can not fit a ring or barbell at this time. I would suggest trying to keep it in as long as possible, as it is a lot more painful to re-pierce after you have let a hole close... going thru all that scar tissue is no walk in the park.
