There have been some recent studies showing that treating people whose thyroid results are in the'low normal' range have beneficial results. I am one of those people. However, there are a number of other variables in my circumstances, including changes in other medications, that could account for a substantial weight loss -- about 25 lbs. in the last nine months. I have always had a lot of the symptoms of hypothyroid -- cold all the time, feeling clammy and sluggish, dull-looking skin. I've never been obese, but I'm much happier at my current weight, 118 lbs. and 5'8". I still don't eat very much, however. One real meal a day and very little in the way of desserts, snacks or junk food.
