My son also has Tourette's. Medications can be tried. Some help, some have side effects that are more problems than just the tics. Stimulant drugs like Ritalin usually make the tics worse. I also had trouble getting his teacher to not punish him for tics. My son's pediatrician said at age 3 - oh, it's just a tic. Lots of kids have them, he'll switch from this to another. It took a psychological evaluation to finally get the formal diagnosis. I finally decided the tics were easy compared to some of the other behaviors. The coprolalia (swearing) was not fun. Fortunately, at the moment my son's tics have weaned.
