you said your husband took alluperinol for years...then he stopped cause he found he no longer needed it???? Gout don't get cured...If he took the medicine for years...Then He was under control for years! It will come back in time. He THOUGHT he no longer needed it cause the medicine kept it under control...but without the meds it will eventually get out of control ... You can have uric acid levels slightly elevated for a long time...These you are unaware of and they do long slow damage to joints..blood vessels..Kidneys EYES...crystals can get ANYWHERE the blood flows.. MY 4th gout attack was on my left foot...and it won't just the bunion joint..it was in the bones on top my foot and my ankle!! which was horribly painful...and it got on the rim of my ear..and BELIEVE me...when you have a foot problem and pain..people tend to be more kind...they will hold a door open for you...help you...but when YOUR EAR swells up and turns BIG and PURPLE and gets those big ol knots on the edges... THEY WILL BACK UP...They will stare...and They will act like you are a leper
