Polymyalgia Rheumatica

Hi Wanda, I hope you are doing better now. I find that exercise is very helpful in maintaining my stamina and muscle tone. It's good that you have gotten into an exercise routine. Were you on low doses of Prednisone all this time and still having some problems with bruising? I'm sorry about that. Hopefully, it will get better as you get off of the Prednisone. When I couldn't taper my Prednisone below 10 mg without having a good deal of pain and fatigue, my rheumatologist suggested that I go on 15 mg of methotrexate. I take it once a week, and this is the end of my fourth week, and my symptoms have improved already! It will help me in tapering the Prednisone to a safer dose. Methotrexate is often used for rheumatoid arthritis, but my doctor said that it works for Polymyalgia too. It's not often used for Polymyalgia, though, but since I've had difficulty in reducing the Prednisone, and I started having new symptoms a few months ago while tapering, my doctor isn't absolutely certain that I still have PMR, but that I may be coming down with RA, so Methotrexate is a good choice for me. You can find information on Methotrexate on the web. You might want to talk to your doctor about it, and see what he thinks. Best wishes! Shar
