Hypothyroid/ synthroid/diet medications

Message 5 of 5 Previous

I also have been hypothyroid -- diagnosed when I was a year old. I take levoxyl (generic for synthroid). I don't take the glucophage, but have heard that it is something that doctors have been prescribing for women with polycystic ovarian disease. I understand that this condition is somehow related to blood sugar. I had a hysterectomy two years ago and heard about this treatment since that time. I did not gain weight until after I was out of high school and all my doctor told me when I complained about gaining weight was to take in less calories and exercise more. The metabolism is slower when you are hypothyroid. I hope that the glucophage helps you. If you have trouble with your ovaries, BY ALL MEANS SEE YOUR GYN. I had a borderline ovarian cancer and was fortunate not to need chemo. EARLY DETECTON IS IMPORTANT.
