mersa and pregnancy

I am a nurse in a local hospital. MRSA is what is commonly referred to as a super bug. A large percent of the population carries this in the nose, sputum etc. Which is normal. Also, this bug is only treated with a few antibiotics. This becomes an issue when a person is immunocompromised or cannot fight off typical infections. I know many nurses who were pregnant and worked with these patients during their entire pregnancy. They and their babies are fine. But she is wise to listen to her health care professional. If she takes normal precautions that are to be normally followed with these type of patients she is not at an increased risk. The worst part of this all is working with patients who do not know that they have these organisms. She should also not take care of patients with herpes zoster/shingles or TB. These are much more harmful to the fetus then the MRSA is.
