stereotactic breast biopsy

Banjos

Message 2 of 15 Previous Next

I had a sterotactic breast biopsy in 1997. I asked about receiving pain meds but was told it didn't hurt that much. I took a tranquillizer on my own because I was pretty anxious, just like you. If you have someone to drive you to and from the procedure, I would recommend asking for a low dose of Demerol or the equivalent. I throw up narcotics but most people tolerate them as long as they eat something. If you can't get painkillers, INSIST on a tranquillizer Rx. The pain is not from the deadening injection, tiny incision or really the biopsy itself. The pain is from the degree of compression of the breast and the length of time. Also you are lying on your stomach, with your neck to one side, and I have a bad neck. My biopsy took much longer than average so yours will probably be easier. It is not a horrible procedure but not painless, either. My mass turned out to only be a solidified cyst and I hope you have good luck, too. Feel free to E-mail if you have any other questions I can help with. Diana
