Ibuprofen helps with the pain for the short term. Since tendonitis is caused from the over working of the tendon, the best thing you can do is build up the muscles around the tendon so the tendon doesn't have to work so hard because the muscle will do the job. The best way I have found to do this is with water aerobics. Water aerobics is very stress free on the body, but very relaxing and a great muscle strenghtener. You can also just do laps in the pool if you prefer. The water also helps give the body support while you work out. If you don't enjoy the water you may be able to talk with a physical therapist about some exercises you can do at home that will help you add strength without putting stress on your sore tendons.
