infant acid reflex

Babies have been taking Zantac for years. The reason why docotrs HAVE to medicate them is not because they just "want" too, its because they "NEED" too do it to control the damaging acid that flows back up, if the acid keeps coming up the esophugus (sp?) that will start leaving scar tissue and a lot of damage. Sometimes enough to warrent surgery to have it replaced. So please continue on the Zantac, no matter what is causing it, right now you just have to concentrait on keeping him comfortable and make sure no internal damage is done to his esophagus(sp?)Keep taking him to the doc for check ups and they will monitor him and if they feel its not the muscle, they will do other tests to rule out other possibilities, You just worry about taking care of him. We tried all the formulas that were out there and ended up with nutramigen. However, we all came to the conclusion, she couldnt handle anything at all to drink it didnt have anything to do with the milk at all it was the muscle in her tummy, it was weak, My son had the allergy, he had such bad gas sometimes bad enough to reflux but he did not have the reflux disease he had an allergy. Now having two babies one with the allergy and one with the acid reflux, I can sure tell the difference... we could NEVER give her water, it was too thin and would no sooner get down and it would come back up again. but she tolerated the nutramigen best with the rice cereal mixed in. You will have trouble with the nipples but if you make a big enough "X" at the tip it should work, other than that go buy a cereal feeder, that thing was great for us, and dont listen to people say that he will never learn to use a spoon LOL Have you ever seen a healthy 6 year old not able to use a spoon?? Dont worry, things may go slow however, it will get better. Ask your pediactric GI about this method of feeding...does he take a long time to feed? I use to use my heating pad on very low also with a towel wrapped around it and put her in her carrier, Put the towel wrapped heating pad on her tummy only while I was with her with her, she seemed to like being warm on her tummy. Good luck and email me anytime if you need help. God Bless you all, SunShne134@aol.com
