scoliosis surgery results

My son (15 yrs.old) had spinal fusion and instrumentation surgery for scoliosis 2 1/2 months ago. Before the surgery, his S-curve was 51 and 54 degrees, after 10 months of bracing. The surgery went well and my son recovered very well too. Five days after the surgery he could walk short distance and going up and downstairs, but was tired easily. Three weeks after surgery he was off pain medication altogether. Six weeks after surgery he went back to school with no problem. He now engages in everyday activities like other kids, with limitations mainly in sports. He was advised not to bend, lift heavy objects, or twist, particularly during the first few months. So now my son does light warm-up exercise and walking. According to the doctor he'll be able to do stationary biking after 3 months, and badminton and swimming after 6 months. But he's advised against rough contact sports for the rest of his life. The surgery leaves a long thin scar on his back, but other than that nothing shows about the surgery. Except that he looks more balanced on the shoulder blades and the rib cages; although the asymmetry wasn't totally corrected by the surgery, my son certainly looks much better. Running our hand on his back, we can't feel the rods and screws that we know were put in there, and my son doesn't feel these things inside him. We're very happy about the surgery and the results. Best wishes for your son. If you need more info please feel free to contact me at .
