Adult Tonsillectomy

I have sleep apnea too. Adult tonsillectomy isn't fun but many do hype it up. I had mine done at 19 and along with my practice, I've learned a few tricks. First of all, take frequent small sips of fluids throughtout the day, humidify the air in the rooms wheree you stay and sleep, there are prescription and non prescription gargles available to cut down on pain and tenderness, use a humidifier if you are on CPAP or BIPAP for your sleep apnea, and use pain meds carefully when you have sleep apnea. Instead of taking large doses of IM or oral meds, try a fentanyl patch after surgery and for the first few days. Fentanyl can be very effective because it is 150 times more powerful mg. for mg. than morphine. THe patch can be applied while you're in surgery so the pain relief is in effect when you wake up and it can be supplemented for the immediate post op period. These last for two to three days so you have a constant, sustained level of relief. This means that you won't have peaks and valleys and won't wake up in pain. Good luck.
