Hi, yes you could pass on cmv even though it is not active. Also it is not strictly a STD it is a virus that almost 90% of the population will have at some point, it is passed via bodily fluids but not just through intercourse, you are most likely to have got it from a child either one coughing or sneezing on you or by you changeing a nappy/diaper. Once you have cmv you have it for life and it can become active again at any time.
